Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,
But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
      Turns again home.
   Twilight and evening bell,
      And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
      When I embark;
For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
-Alfred, Lord Tennyson
For many years I’ve known that my father wanted this read at his memorial service.  On Sunday, it will be.

  4. I am so sorry for the loss of your father. May your father Rest In Peace. May your family find the peace and strength during this difficult time. Your father’s light will be shining on you forever.

  5. Lindsey, I am so sorry for the dual losses of both your father and your father-in-law, so close together, especially around the holidays. As you may recall, my mother died on Thanksgiving, and experiencing a loss during this season has a different layer of freight associated with it. It’s a beautiful poem. I’m wishing you peace during these most difficult days ahead of you.

  6. What a beautiful poem. Sending so much love and strength to you and your family. I’m sorry you have to endure another loss this year. xxx
