More beauty than our eyes can bear

“Wherever you turn your eyes the world can shine like transfiguration. . . . I think there must also be a prevenient courage that allows us to be brave – that is, to acknowledge that there is more beauty than our eyes can bear, that precious things have been put into our hands and to do nothing to honor them is to do great harm.”

– Marilynne Robinson, Gilead

  1. Oh, Lindsey. Thank you. Just back from a choir concert. I could not stop weeping for the hope I felt in preserving the arts and seeing the reverence in the children’s faces, and the audience for that matter. Tears upon tears, and of course, I did imagine you in another auditorium or on one of your special walks, traveling with a similar throat ache.
