What a beautiful post. The hammock...love that analogy. I always get apprehensive right before midnight on New Year's, and although I am not into traditional resolutions, I do try to look back and forward...

I smiled at the hammock analogy--what a lovely way to think of that time of year!

I also think of memory and thoughts as bubbles...except I always think of the old, rusty coffee percolator my parents owned growing up. Do you remember those? Every so often, it would pop and burble...kind of like the mind.

Love the memory of the bobbing sticks! Happy New Year!

Gorgeous musings on bittersweet realities. The images here are haunting and powerful - the hammock, the bobbing sticks, the murky darkness of existence, the beautiful and benign fall of snow.

Reading this confirms for me something you might not even know or believe (yet): This is going to be a good year for you.

Thrilled to be back reading your words! Happy New Year!

Hi! I am in the Unravelling course with you. I can so relate to your thoughts about the passage of time here/ The relentless feeling of it does begin to feel like an undertow at times like birthdays and New Years. Beautiful writing!

I know what you mean about memory and time... your post brought to mind how my kids, when the rains would wash in swells down our street, would have pencil races... it seems like yesterday and yet it was already six years ago, years that divide the pencil racer from the video-gamer. Yet somehow, just today, cooking and golfing and just hanging out was lovely... and may soon be but a poignant memory.

Beautiful post. Yes, the more settled we become, the more life opens to our perception. It's the opposite of what the marketplace society screams. Trying so hard pushes life away. Savoring lets it in. Thank you.
